چکیده

The electronic charge density and the expectation of any monoelectronic operator can be reconstructed by a density-weighted integral of the exchange-correlation hole. This property can be used to test and improve approximate holes that are not spherically averaged. As an example, we test the Becke–Roussel exhange-hole model in its nonspherical formulation on small atoms, finding that it accurately reproduces the density in the core region, while missing some of the features of the valence and core-valence regions. The same test on the local-density approximation shows poor results, as

On the exchange-hole model of London dispersion forces.

First-principles derivation is given for the heuristic exchange-hole model of London dispersion forces by Becke and Johnson [J. Chem. Phys. 122, 154104 (2005)]. A one-term approximation is used for the dynamic charge density response function, and it is shown that a central nonempirical ingredient of the approximate nonexpanded dispersion energy is the charge density autocorrelation function, a...

The Effect of Exchange-Correlation Holes on the Temperature Dependent Dynamic Dielectric Function of Single-Layer Quantum Wells and Coupled Nanolayers

In this paper, for the first time we have studied theoretically the effect of exchange-correlation holes around electrons in GaAlAs/GaAs/GaAlAs nanostructure on the temperature-dependent dynamic dielectric function of two-dimensional electron gas by employing random phase, STLS and Hubbard approximations. Also, we have investigated another interesting system which is coupled quantum wells struc...

Ground-State Charge Transfer: Lithium-Benzene and the Role of Hartree-Fock Exchange.

Most approximations to the exchange-correlation functional of Kohn-Sham density functional theory lead to delocalization errors that undermine the description of charge-transfer phenomena. We explore how various approximate functionals and charge-distribution schemes describe ground-state atomic-charge distributions in the lithium-benzene complex, a model system of relevance to carbon-based sup...

Comparison of exact and approximate density functionals for an exactly soluble model

We consider a model, given by two interacting electrons in an external harmonic potential, that can be solved analytically for a discrete and infinite set of values of the spring constant. The knowledge of the exact electronic density allows us to construct the exact exchangtiorrelation potential and exchange-correlation energy by inverting the Kohn-Sham equation. The exact exchange-correlation...

Exchange-Correlation Energies and Correlation Holes for Some Two- and Four-Electron Atoms along a Nonlinear Adiabatic Connection in Density Functional Theory

The adiabatic connection procedure of density functional theory has been applied to twoand four-electron atomic systems by following a nonlinear path that leads from the noninteracting Kohn–Sham reference system to the physical one. We have calculated the exchange and correlation energies as the interaction strength is increased, as well as the densities of the corresponding correlation holes. ...
